Explaining a Migraine Headache

Understanding the illnesses that can cause migraine begins with knowing the type of pain and the origin of a migraine headache. One of the most painful that can impact and debilitate a person is a migraine headache. A migraine is usually originated from something within a person’s environment that incites the migraine episode but the illnesses that can cause migraine is not conclusive. The exact origin and direct causes of migraines is not completely understood by medical researchers but treatments are improving.

Treatments for Migraine Headaches

Illnesses that can cause migraine continue to be explored with medical research along with treatment options. There has been highly successful specialized treatments created specifically for migraine allowing people afflicted with migraines to live a normal life.

Treatments for migraine can be managed on an as needed basis for some types of depending on their frequency and their strength. Illnesses that can cause migraine can sometimes suggest the best treatment methods. Preventative medications can be used to attempt to block a potential migraine episode. Neurological science has not defined the cause of migraine pain but the source of illnesses that can cause migraine has been identified and are considered triggers for setting off a migraine.

Illnesses that can cause migraine are often due to a blood stream chemical imbalance. The tiny blood vessels around the skull start to contract or expand, causing severe pain and discomfort. The brain tissue is not actually affected by the intense pain or even the sensation of pain. Migraines generally only involve the skull and its elements.

As the blood vessels around the skull start to contract or expand, the nerve endings and surrounding muscles begin to spasm and the resulting pain occurs. Traditional migraine affect only one side of a skull, however, the intensity of this pain is sometimes the worst pain a person has ever experienced. The length of a migraine can also vary, sometimes a pulsating pain that will last less than an hour or may continue until treated.

Two Different Kinds of Treatment

Migraine need a diagnosis as quickly as possible. While a great deal is unknown about the illnesses that can cause migraine headaches, physicians are often able to provide pain relief. One treatment technique deals with individual migraine occurrences where a doctor will prescribe painkillers and appropriate anti-inflammatory medications in an effort to reduce the side effects and intensity of a migraine attack. These medications need to be taken immediately with the onset of symptoms or as directed depending on the exact illnesses that

can cause migraine in an individual. They also end to work most optimally when given approximately 30 minutes to work while you are relaxed. When possible, lie down as you wait for your medications to take effect.

The second type of treatment is an ongoing and a more preventative treatment. If your physician has diagnosed your migraine type as recurring, then it is a situation where your life is impacted considerably by the frequency. In order to best help patients avoid recurring migraine side effects, doctors will prescribe a drug treatment which can help reduce the migraine effects significantly.
